Following the severe depression and cyclonic storm in Bay of Bengal, the rainfall was heavy and damaging! The forty meter well in our compound which has about seven to ten meters of water normally has water at three meter level now-all in 48 hours. As far as I remember, this is the first time I have seen the water level rising upto this level.
There is respite form rain today and that is a big relief!
But with the cyclonic storm moving towards Maharashtra and Gujarat coasts, there is likely to be severe damage with wind speed reaching about 100 kilometres per hour. About 500 COVID patients admitted in some hospitals in Bombay have been shifted to safer places.
This is the fifth flood situation in three years that I have observed in different places close to us.
I met a daily wage worker who was not able to rebuild his house damaged in the floods, since it was damaged 18 months ago.
I wonder whether individuals who are affected by adversity get as much of attention as when a tragedy strikes a cluster of people in one locality or widely!
People are lonely when they suffer. Fortunately, most people get some help through the initiatives of those who care. But the one person that I referred to above, escaped that welfare support somehow!
I feel most encouraged by the support COVID patients receive at home, when they live in quarantine in there homes. Five neighbours of ours have warm stories of support they received during their illness.
That is what encourages me. There is a new level of social consciousness that has arisen following this pandemic!
All difficulties create a new level of mindfulness !
