The neighbourhood state !

A pair of tree pies on a coconut palm following a short spell of rain in the evening!

The cloudy evening and the distance made the photography difficult!

The place they chose to be perched was private enough to be fully present to each other!

The countries of India and Pakistan are a pair of nations who received independence on the same occasion. India chose a secular constitution and Pakistan pursued to be a religious  state.

These two nations are no more neighbours in fellowship, but in hostility. The history of four major territorial conflicts have left both countries wounded. There is an illusion of superiority which both countries hold on to.

I pause to ask, should it have to be like this way, when both countries harbour intentions to harm each other. Pakistan favours and nurtures terrorists to cross over to Kashmir to kill innocent people. India in return stopped water from flowing into Pakistan and destroyed several terrorist training camps in Pakistan!

Now the government of India is sending teams of the Members of Parliament to fifty countries to educate the leadership about Pakistan being a pro-terrorist nation intending to harm India. This is seen as a way to isolate Pakistan by drawing sympathy for India.

I wonder whether it would escalate the tension or create space for negotiation between two countries !

A civil society in a civilised world is fraternity of nations!

Sighting the two Tree pies perched soberly and mindfully of each other, sprang within me a longing to see India and Pakistan as trustful neighbours to each other in my life time!

Are not these two countries like two leaves of a stem !

I wait to hear a language of accommodation from leaders of both countries!

Till then, let it be a season of prayerful vigil for all of us!
