The first two Bulbuls in the photos above, are silently present in our garden.
The third Bulbul is engaged in communicating presence!
I recall a conversation with a family of how the communication between the husband and wife has gradually decreased amidst the pressures and demands of each day! They talked about silence and distance that have crept in between them.
The communicating presence has three dimensions.
First, the desire to communicate arises form desire for self disclosure and interest in being a listener to the other person.
The second dimension is the benefit of intimacy in relationship, when the language of edifying each other is the bridge in communication.
The third dimension is the trustful composure which disarms each person of fear, suspicion and expectations. Both become interdependent and open !
I heard two children refer to their parents as their 'friends' ! For the two teenage children to make such a confession was more than surprising! They grew up in an environment of a home where love, caring and self giving became the behavioural norm of their parents!
Every marriage relationship is the shelter for their children!
It is when the children see their parents in a communicating and upbuilding relationship towards each other, they feel drawn towards their parents in admiration and openness.
A man and woman in marriage relationship become husband and wife when the their journey converges to become 'one'! They become parents to their children giving a foretaste of the joy of family life !
The art of communicating presence is the norm in every vibrant marriage relationship, making it a treasure for every member of the family to cherish!
