A social calling!

I happened to notice the birds above perched in different places in our garden, when it was raining.

Except for the Kingfisher all the other birds had taken shelter under the foliage of trees.

The last photo of the Kingfisher was taken after the rain fall. The Kingfisher looked drenched!

The avian behaviour showed two patterns. Some birds seek protection and a Kingfisher is unaffected by the rainfall!

The ease with which the Kingfisher stayed in the open during the rainfall pointed to its habitat. It lives beside streams, ponds or lakes and feeds on the fish in the water! It is habituated to getting drenched.

I noticed how our domestic helpers continued working wearing rain coats during the rain although I kept reminding therm to take a break during the rain. Their response was, 'we are used to working in rain'!

In a conversation with a few people I picked up this message that people get 'used' to living at the edge enduring the hostile situations that they do not search actively for respite!

This form of 'self-resignation' without aspiration or longing for something beyond is a discouraging state in life!

I felt encouraged by what I read about three families jointly building a house for a widow, who lost her family in an accident. The families took initiative to get a special pension sanctioned for her from the local  civil administration!

Some endure circumstances and some others find situations too overwhelming to overcome!

Some birds above needed shelter during the rain but the Kingfisher weathered the rain!

Looking out for people who need shelter and support is a social cause and a calling!
