The above photo of cashew fruits brings consolation and hope! While one fruit is reaching its ripe stage, another is growing and a new one has appeared at 2'o'clock position. It dispels the first impression of just one fruit in a large blossom!
Having been in overseeing position at my work places and in a few service organisations, I have had times when I wondered about people appearing to be stagnant with their skills!
Looking back, I remember occasions when some needed a nudge, affirmation or motivation to exercise what was hidden in them.
This experience helped me to choose a charitable approach towards those who struggle or were regular defaulters. The response to kind and affirming approach had more effect than an accountability strategy.
I remember a resident who could not come on time in the morning for rounds, in spite of requests and reminders. I offered to meet with him for coffee every morning before the morning ward round commenced. In two weeks time, he arrived for coffee even before me. While leaving after his term, he told me, ' Thank you for accepting me as I am, which made me want to excel'. He went on to become a highly accomplished professional with creditable achievement.
I have often wondered, 'what do I see in others when placed in an overseeing role'? Do I see the prospects of what they shall become ! Or do I stay preoccupied with the present acts of commission or omission!
All people take a season of gestation for change! To offer an ambience of acceptance of the efforts taken to change, becomes the incentive to hasten the process of change! No one is a loser by choice. Most people discover the spark within to become a light!
