During a recent road journey form Darbanga to Madhepura, Anna and I were taken back by the sight of stretches of acres of paddy fields, ready for harvest on either side of the road for almost all the way. The river feeding the rice fields had copious flowing water, which is the secret for the land to be so fertile.
Bihar brings not so pleasant memories about health indices, per capita income, literacy rate, employment opportunities, corruption in the government machinery, etc.
But the sight of these flourishing paddy fields gave me a feeling that, every thing that is needed for the welfare of the people of the state Bihar is already there. But who would harness the resources and lead by a people friendly governance system!
The encouragement was that the roads in Bihar looked so different this time. Since the last time I visited, I found an enormous improvement in the condition of the national and state high ways. That to me was a sign of change, slowly setting in!
If Bihar is changing, then there is hope for the rest of India!
