Anna and I were privileged to know Theo and Maria and Hedwig from 1982. They lived in the outskirts of Zurich and offered us hospitality whenever we visited Switzerland.
Our visits were often in the spring. That gave us an opportunity to see how the earth wakes up from a five month long winter to bring forth its treasures!
One sight Anna and I took delight in was the apple trees covered with their blossoms. Often there were more flowers than leaves.
Theo with his interest in farming and gardening would give us stories and anecdotes connected with his experiences. The longer or harsher the winter is, the flowers and fruits would often be in plenty. The earth primes the plants and trees better during the extreme low temperature as low as minus 20 sometimes.
The advantages of difficulties are sometimes forgotten.
The difficulties are formative. although appreciated in retrospect!
