The harvesting time!

The views on either side of the road from our home to the hospital bring back some good memories. One recent sight was watching the preparation for harvesting.

On one end there was a man with sickle to harvest the paddy. On the other side was the machine ready for use for harvesting.

The labourers whom I met told me that this machine will deliver the paddy in bags while the straw is pumped out from the other side. All the tasks associated with harvesting are combined in this machine.

In a climate, where labourers are not available or too expensive to employ, machines like this normally do most of the harvesting.

This stretch of field is sowed and harvested at least twice in a year, unlike other stretches of land remaining unused for lack of labourers or the cost of farming being prohibitive with less returns on investment!

So to me, it was a sight that created a celebrant mood within, which made me to stop to take these photographs.

This is food for others. Farmers earn their livelihood from this.
