Anna and I had to relocate the feeding station for the visiting birds in our garden two months ago, since ants invaded the earlier feeding station. We improvised the feeding platform on pillars that were erected in a water tub. I wonder if the birds found it a trap! Bird avoided to come to feed from the table.
We modified it as below without making it appear like a trap by lowering the height of the table
Since the above innovation, some birds have begun to visit.
The ants are even more innovative. They swim across the water from the edge of the basin of water to the pillar where the netted table is placed ! The number of ants which survives this transporting across water is less. The Birds do not mind a few of them. How innovative are those tiny ants! In the book of proverbs in the Bible there is a reference to the wisdom of the ants in chapters 6: 6-11and in 30: 25-28. Is there a safe place to store food, where they can't come?
There are few birds so far, only Bulbuls, who come three times in a day to feed from the table.
I wait to see the feeding table to a be active as before in the earlier feeding station.
How important it is to know the 'mind' of the birds when we plan a place of hospitality for them!
To know, feel and sense the comfort of the birds is more important than the many things we do which appeal to our reason!
It is a learning experience to become familiar with the ways of birds!
