The plane crash and the loss of lives yesterday in Ahemmadabad, keep returning in different ways! The shock and sorrow would stay on, unsettling wellness of many.
Every air traveller takes such an occasion to recall one's own experience of encountering anxious time during a flight.
Anna and I revisited today our own experience of enduring engine trouble of the air craft, when we were travelling from an international air port by a highly rated air line. The forty five minutes in the air with an air craft loosing height and struggling to regain it caused considerable turbulence to the aircraft. The announcement of the pilot about an emergency landing caused anxiety. He announced that the situation was serious but so far under control. The plane landed in the next air port, which was ready with all the emergency measures in place. We could see several fire engines and ambulances in the tarmac while landing.
The plane was unworthy for flight and we had to stay for a day till an alternate air craft arrived. The air line officials took care of the travellers during the flight and the night halt.
The forty five minutes of travelling in a plane that was turbulent and unsteady was an experience which left frightful memories.
The possibility of a crash landing was a risk that was referred to in the announcement during the flight!
Although it was the only time such an event happened during our travels, it stays within us. Although we feel distanced from the state of anxiety we suffered, it is still a memory, with a sense of gratitude for the safety all the travellers experienced.
Excepting that Anna and I had to wait for three days to receive our checked in baggage, there was no other physical in convenience !
With all travellers except one loosing their lives in the plane crash yesterday, there is a sense of anguish and loss! The heaviness stayed on within us all the day.
I realise now that, it is what is referred to as post traumatic stress.
The memories of difficult experiences stay within us at the sub-conscious level and surfaces, when the memory is awakened by another stressful event!
Anna and I are able to recognise how real is the effect of memories of stressful experiences in the past !
It is recollection, conversation and gratitude for the wellness, that would diffuse the memories of stress !
I remember watching these two Bulbuls in the photo above, holding on to the branches, when a heavy wind was blowing with the impending rain in our garden ! They seemed to face it with ease and confidence!
