Six hours after I posted my last post, the news is full of the details of the attack of the Indian military to damage the terrorist posts in the Pakistan territory.
The message of the chief of the United Nations to both countries, that 'war is no solution' did not deter them from taking this step.
What happens with a war!
The green earth is damaged by arsenals and the soil does not recover sometimes for a long time.
The people in the garden of life loose their lives, get injured, and the physical facilities like houses, schools, parks, roads.... built over a period of time get destroyed ! The farm land would become unusable. The power supply gets affected. The supply chain of food and essential provisions for hospitals get dislocated.
All children born in a war prone area grow up in deprivation and denial of essentials without the affirming childhood experiences. We expose the upcoming generation to fear, anxiety and post traumatic stress.
The defence forces of any country during a war are expected to attack their targets.
Often while they do so, so much more would get damaged as it is in the photo below. In the process of targeting on the flower, the three buds also would get damaged. The collateral damage during war and thereafter is lot more than what was envisaged!
A war harms life on earth! Some damages outlive even one generation of people!
I wish global spokes persons would emerge in the international arena!
I remember when the late president of the United States of America, Mr Jimmy Carter was able to diffuse tensions between countries. A former Secretary General of the United Nations Organisation, Mr U Thant, during his term from 1961 to 1971 brought nations to the negotiating table on a few occasions. The first Prime Minister of India Mr Jawaharlal Nehru had a global stature which he used wisely. The current Prime Minister of India seems to have good equations with presidents of the USA and Russia. Will he have an optic of peace in his plan!
We live in a world where, 'loose a speck to gain a log' is not in the diplomacy agenda of negotiators.
I still hope that India and Pakistan would look at other options to settle disputes and collaborate to benefit both!
Let there be peace on earth!
May we be a community of nations!
Seventy eight years after Independence, India and Pakistan are still struggling to be friendly neighbours!
Let better statesmanship prevail!
